Review of Munds Park, Arizona

Page Arizona is a beautiful place. It is a growing town that's growth is limited to the size of the city. It is bordered by Lake Powell (National Recreation Land), Marble & Glen Canyon, & the Navajo Nation. If you are an outdoor person, this is a great place to be. Lots of red rock and 1,980 miles of shore line for Lake Powell at full pool.

It has grown in the 16 years I have been here, but slowly. The hospital has grown a great deal, but the area has a difficult time attracting doctors, primarliy due to wages. The lead time for a regular doctors appointment is about 2 weeks. Many opt to go to Flagstaff.

There are 3 places for grocery shopping, Super Wal-mart, Bashas (local AZ food store chain) and a Safeway. Shopping the weekly adds is a good bet.

Housing is on the expensive side. 20+ old crappy trailers go for 60k on up. building lots are small and 50k or more. This may not seem bad, but most of the jobs are seasonal & resort. Starting wage is $7.00 per hour for these jobs. Rent is also high for the wage. It is difficult to get hired on full time at these locations.

The major employers are: the National Park Service, Department of Interior (The Dam), Salt River Project (the power plant). The towns visitation and jobs increase in the summer with over 1 million vistors a year. Seasonally, the largest employers are Aramark & Forever Resorts (On the Lake), various hotels, resaurants, and retail. There are not enough quality employees for the jobs. The pool of general applicants are low in the area. Many workers live on the Navajo reservation and commute 45 minutes or more to work as they cannot afford to live in town.

There are hot, cold, windy and absolutley beautiful days here. There is very little snow. Hot days in the summer are often above 100 degrees. Winters are often below 35. Have seen winds up to 80 miles per hour sustained.

The air can be clear & beautiful to - smokey (form controlled burns in the Grand Canyon - spring, summer, fall), smokey (from Temprature Inversions in the winter), smokey (from the wood/coal stoves in the winter time), to dusty during wind storms. The power plant also effects this. There can be high pollen days as there are many exotic desert plants, tamerisk & russian olive trees & home owners additions.

There are many churches here. When the dam was being built in the late 1950' - early 60's, these were some of the 1st things built.

There is a Community College here that is accredited and an extension of NAU in Flagstaff.
